English Premier League Club Chelsea have announced the return of Champions League hero Dider Drogba on a 1 year deal. Drogba, now 36 years old, left Stamford Bridge in 2012, after scoring the winning penalty in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich after a 1-1 draw over 90 minutes and extra time.

On signing for Chelsea again, Drogba said,”It was an easy decision – I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to work with Jose again. Everyone knows the special relationship I have with this club and it has always felt like home to me. My desire to win is still the same and I look forward to the opportunity to help this team. I am excited for this next chapter of my career.”

Didier Drogba remains a firm fans favourite among the Chelsea die-hards with the Stamford Bridge club expected to announce his return before the weekends. He will sign as a player with a view to becoming part of the coaching staff at the club where he spent 8 seasons between 2004-2012 scoring 157 goals.

Chelsea’s manager Jose Mourinho said,”He’s coming because he’s one of the best strikers in Europe. I know his personality very well and I know if he comes back he’s not protected by history or what he’s done for this club previously. He is coming with the mentality to make more history. His 34 goals in European competition remains a Chelsea record, as do his 9 strikes in 9 cup finals.”

More on Didier Drogba:

Didier Drogba joined Chelsea from Olympique Marseille in 2004 for £24 million, at the start of Jose Mourinho’s first spell in charge, and scored 157 goals in 342 appearances. He won 3 English Premier League Titles, 4 FA Cups, 2 League Cups as well as the Champions League Title before leaving Chelsea in 2012.

Didier Drogba remains their record scorer in European competition with 34 goals while his 9 strikes in 9 cup finals is also their record. In 2012, Drogba joined Shanghai Shenhua in China and many thought that his career was on the wane as his performances has been between brilliant and largely ineffective.

He then moved to Galatasaray in Turkey, making 37 appearances and scoring 15 goals, before resigning with Chelsea in 2014.

Chelsea have confirmed that they have met Diego Costa buy-out clause of £32 million and will become Chelsea’s second big signing after the capture of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona FC.

Chelsea club statement read: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa, with Chelsea meeting the buy put clause for the Spanish International,”

Diego Costa was the inspiration behind Atletico Madrid shock La Liga triumph last season, with the Brazilian-born forward scoring 27 times in 35 appearances. He was also part of the team that represented Spain in their terrible 2014 FIFA World Cup Campaign, having been the first team to crash out of the World Cup.

More on Diego Costa:

Diego Costa began his career with Braga in Portugal and was signed by Atletico Madrid, his current club in 2007. He was then loaned back to Braga, then to Celta and Albacete before he was sold to Valladolid in 2009. The 25-year-old then rejoined Atletico Madrid in 2010 and became an integral player in their attack.

Internationally, Costa represented Brazil twice in 2013, but later declared his desire to represent Spain, having been granted Spanish Citizenship in September 2013. Diego Costa made his debut for Spain in March 2014 and was selected for the Spanish 2014 FIFA World Cup Squad in Brazil.

On Diego Costa, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho said (in June), “Costa is a player who I want to have in my team. I’ve asked my club for him and I have total confidence that we are going to achieve it and he will end up signing for Chelsea.”

Guess Mourinho would be right after all.
